The government is still studying the new mechanisms so that BR1M could bring more impacts to the needy. One of the outcome is the recently launched, BR1M 2015 which the allowances will be paid 3 times in a year.
Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance, Tan Sri Dr Mohd Irwan Abdullah Serigar said that is to prevent the recipients from spending the money on non-essential goods. He made the statement during post Budget 2015 event organized by the Malaysian Economic Association and University of Malaya yesterday.
It could be i implemented in Budget 2016, he said the mechanism could involves the use of the MyKad to purchase groceries and household goods.
Current BR1M requirement and benefited groups :
“It’s a new kind of BR1M. Like, let’s say the Government gives out RM100 monthly, averaging out it annually for 12 weeks, therefore people can buy items and important products. This is the kind of process we are con sidering”
Meanwhile the Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan said that BR1M is not for luxury goods.
BR1M next year is helping more than 7 millions people, a slightly increase compared to previous handout.
He explained why the government split the allowances into 3 times a year. He also claimed that BR1M 4.0 is enough to cover 3 months expenses for the average families. Look at the table here regard tarikh BR1M 2015.
