Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan responded to the critics by Dr. Mahathir on the handout of BR1M. Dr. Mahathir pointed 14 points why the BR1M doesn’t help. One of the strongest saying is :
“..BR1M has more negative implications than that. It increases the tendency towards personal dependence on the Government even for one’s income, without any effort by oneself..”
Quoted from chedet. In summary of what Mahathir had pointed out in his blog, for him the incentive is a kind of initiative as a form of bribery.
Meanwhile, Datuk Ahmad Maslan responded that BR1M is one of the BN’s manifesto for the GE13 to the people and hence the promise must be fulfill.
He said that the government shall continue the BR1M handout until 2018, which it will last at least for another 4 years.
The amount of incentive shall be increased to RM1200 in the fifth year. It shall not be stopped but must be continue. The handout is effec tive be used to spur the economy by helping the low income earners in the country directly.
“We would have only given BR1M once before the election if the aid is a kind of corruption. The aid is not any kind of corruption as alleged by certain quarters and that is the reason why we are giving it every year,” he said.
Regard the fuel subsidy matter, he said he had propose that the price of RON95 petrol to be reduced, and no taxing for fuel price, as if the world oil price go down. Crude petrol now costs USD79.41 per barrel.
He wish the prices of goods and services would be lowered by the traders if the price of fuel is cut.
